Currently, 733 million people worldwide do not have access to electricity and 2.4 billion people still cook using fuels that are harmful to health and the environment. This reality is far from fulfilling Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 7 of the United Nations (UN), which aims to ensure access to clean, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. In this context, the Oakpar Foundation's Illumine Program emerges, whose mission is to combat and eradicate inequality, guaranteeing safe access to the generation and storage of electricity for isolated and underserved populations of public policies, in areas essential to progress and social well-being. .
The Illumine Program aims at human and social development, based on the decentralized electrification of residences, according to the implementation of Off Grid photovoltaic systems, intended for the supply of energy for lighting, food refrigeration and ecological cooking. In addition, the program will provide technical support and preventive and corrective maintenance for the system's useful life, ensuring the program's long-term sustainability.
The social and humanitarian impact of the Illumine Program is evident. The program will transform the reality of thousands of lives afflicted with the lack of electricity, supporting families and communities at risk and in extreme poverty. It will ensure access to electricity generation and storage technologies, as well as access to equipment for domestic use (refrigerator and electric stove).
The program will initially be implemented in Brazil for 30,000 families in regions with a low human development index - HDI, with emphasis on the states of Acre, Alagoas, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba , Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima, Sergipe and Tocantins. In South America, Central America and the Caribbean, the program will initially support 30,000 families in the poorest countries and/or countries with the greatest social inequality in those continents. And in Africa and Asia, the Illumine Program will initially support 60,000 families, preferably in countries where there are no armed conflicts.
The integration of the Illumine Program will provide access to electricity from clean and renewable sources. This action is essential to meet UN SDG 7, which seeks to expand access to sustainable energy for all, in order to promote social and economic development without compromising the environment and future generations.
